Testimonies of those who escaped the atrocities
perpetrated by the Armenians and Russians in Van and Bayezit
Following the General Mobilization while müslim Ottoman subjects were enlisting one
has not succeeded to enlist more than five per cent of the Ottoman Armenian subjects
and these enlisted Armenians, had deserted and joined with their arms Armenians who
shirked the military service; other Armenians from Bitlis, Erzurum, Diyarbakır,
came up and joined them in Van. Their estimated number reached about hundred
thousand persons
While the Ottoman State's aim is to secure the peace and safety of its citizens the
Armenians persisted in their never ending seditious activities in order to realize
their eternal aspirations and formed in Van, Erzurum, Bitlis and the neighborhood of
Diyarbakır, the Tachmaksutioun Committee in the neighborhood of Diyarbakır
the Hintchakian Committee and the Arminak committee and organized many bands of
brigands.
These brigands assaulted and ravished many muslim young girls, attacked pregnant
women, cutting their abdomens and eviscerating their babies to kill them, slaying
many women after having mutilated their breasts, lips, noses and ears; killed many
people after burning with hot iron their eyeballs and torturing them; threws into
hot bubbling water infants before their parents and then forced them to eat their
own children's boiled flesh, and later killed them also; dug tunnels under muslim
houses to blow them up.
In Bayezit on the first day of the Festival of Sacrifice when the muslim population
was gathered for the prayer or were visiting each other for congralutations,
Armenians took them into custody and with yet unseen ferocity massacred them and
grasping small children between three years and ten, their hands tied on their backs
made them sit on the heap of corpses, soaked them with Kerosene and kindled. On a
total population of a fifteen thousand souls fourteen thousand were assasinated,
five hundred taken prisoners the rest escaped after having gone through many
difficulties and suffered hard privations.

perpetrated by the Russians and Armenians |
(Some of the terrible atrocities perpetrated by Russians and Armenians in Eleşkirt,
Hınıs, Karakilise, Şatak, Müküs, Muş and Akcan as it was stated by
those who escaped from)
"Russians and Armenians like rapacious animals and unchained bears attacked villages
and it was a bloodshed that turned all into red"; men and women were slaughtered; in
Aralköyü attached to Eleşkirt they deflowered in two days twenty three muslims
virgins and raped newly wedded girls and married women", in the village of Mollakulaç
köy of Hınıs more than twenty children were butchered like lambs, two pregnant
women had the hellies cut by cuttlasses and the foetus extracted and fixed on the point of
bayonets and displayed to their fathers; some muslim people were beheaded, some others had
their arms, noses, ears cut and eyes pulled out and after they had their skins flayed they
were soaked with keresone and set fire to; finally the following are other examples of the
horrors and abominations committed:
"Armenians brought with them two muslim women; they formed a circle around them, both
were pregnant; two Russian soldiers and two Armenians came; they betted on the gender of
the unborn youngs, male or female, betting for each, two mecidiye (Silver coins of 20
piastres), then they ferociously eviscerated the abdomen and wombs of the pregnant women
with a dagger, one of the unborn young was a male child; the other young was an amorphous
bleeding lump so they went on quarreling about its gender _"

14. Massacre
perpetrated by the Armenian committees
and Russians in Van |
"Testimonies of some who escaped the massacre perpetrated by Russians and Armenian
committees in Van and its neighborhood"
After they had joined the Russian forces, the "Menslaughterer Armenian
committees" turned the places where they passed into slaughterhouses full of corpses,
torturing people to loot valuables and plunder goods and properties. They blasphemed and
cursed the Islam profaned mosques and medresses (Muslim
theological schools) and burnt them up. They were delighted to kill Muslim people. After
they had disarmed the population they had mutilated their noses, ears, legs, cut their
heads off, disemboweled their abdomens and sabred them, cut them up to chunks; thrown
living children into the flames and were much delighted to slay infants and crippled old
people with their swords. They flayed off the skins of some people and stuck decapitated
heads at the point of their bayonets, chopped off some heads on the logs and threw some in
the Mermid stream. They piled up corpses in the wells and burnt women and children in
earthen ovens; those who remained alive under the destroyed houses’ wreckages moaned for
days while dying. They raped women in an unspeakable manner, those of women and girls who
resisted to be taken forcibly away were ferociously killed and some of them had their legs
slashed and poured in filth; those women somehow still alive after having their breasts
and noses mutilated were stripped off their clothes and so stark naked died on the road.
Small children were left on the snowy road to meet with death; people dyed of starvation.
The people of Hoşab who withdrew to the mountain of Sor had been shelled by Russians
and most of them got killed. The son of the mufti of Heşab Ali, had the head crushed
until reduced to a small lump not larger than a clenched fist, Armenians menanced his
father and made him say that his son had been killed by Russians.
Those who had been taken to the American establishment fell sick after they ate stewed
meat with loaves of bread and died of bloody intestinal evacuations; some were taken to a
German establishment.

16. Massacre
committed by the Russians and Armenians in Van |
(Testimonies of those who escaped the massacre perpetrated by the Armenians and Russians
in Van)
Christian Ottoman subjects had by a common consent agreed to act together and everywhere
introduced their spies. When the general mobilization was declared, they tried to massacre
muslim population and in the localities they occupied to put to the sword the greater part
of the muslim population. What they aimed at by killing religious muslim leaders, was to
provoke the muslim population and start a rebellion throughout the country, whenever they
committed atrocities they always had cursed İslam and shouted "Long live
Armenia" and "down with the Ottomans" and then ripping the abdomen of
pregnant women, eviscerated youngs in the wombs and hurled them up and shot at as a
targets. "Even animals can feel ashamed of what has been done"; they stripped
our women and girls’ clothes before us" and after raping them they ripped their
abdomen" many of the raped girls were less than ten years old. In matter of raping,
killing children and cutting them up, Armenians were more ferocious than Russians, but
when it comes to slitting the eyes, cutting the noses and thrusting thin bayonets into the
women breast the Russians were the first to start such savageries thus emboldening the
Armenians to commit atrocities. They even burnt and cut to pieces small children and after
taking aside young girls they burnt the remainder. Although Muslims being disarmed could
not fight and were forced to surrender every place was put to fire, children and women
were trodden under the horsemen heels. Goverment agents and gendarmes in mission for
levying war taxes were also savagely slain. Only those who sought refuge and hid
themselves into thickets and bushes were enough fortunate to have their lives safe.
